Storing Fresh Fish
As a rule, it is best to cook and eat seafood on the same day of purchase,
but that isn't always practical. In a pinch, here's what to do to prolong your
catch's shelf life.
Keeping it Cool
First of all, the only shelf your fish and seafood should ever see is
your refrigerator shelf.
After buying, wrap fish in waxed paper or place in a covered dish and
refrigerate. It is important to cook as soon as possible, although fresh
fish can be refrigerated for a day or two. Frozen fish may be stored in the
freezer for up to 6 months.
Before storing uncooked shrimp, rinse them well under cold running water and
drain thoroughly. Refrigerate, tightly covered, for up to 2 days. Cooked
shrimp can also be refrigerated for up to 2 days.
